A favorite of event and property photographers, this lens offers a very wide, undistorted view on full-frame, and on APS-C it provides an effective focal length of 21mm ? not as wide, but still useful. Optically, this lens has been surpassed by the newer Nikon AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, which also offers more versatility when it comes to framing. The older 14mm prime is smaller though, and less expensive making it potentially attractive if portability and economy are your priorities.
